  • ResumeDimitrios Giannakidis MD, MSc, MSc, PhD(c), born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1984, graduated from the Medical School of the University of Sofia with honors (9,3/10), to which he was admitted after exams, in December 2016 and at the same time he completed a master's degree in Healthcare Management while he had been working as a Cardiovascular Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit performing and coordinator duties since 2008. He is currently working as a 6th year General Surgery Resident and during his residency he has exhibited broad research interest participating in numerous scientific papers as a co-author in a wide range of Medical Science. He has a recent master's degree in colorectal surgery. His scientific work includes 47 publications in international peer-reviewed medical journals with an h-index:17, i12-index:14 and more than 450 references to scientific articles by other authors. He has presented studies and scientifically interesting cases in >20 national and international conferences and has participated in >40 practical and theoretical training courses. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the Department of Medicine studying the role of antioxidants in intestinal ischemic reperfusion injury and their effect on the intestinal anastomoses. Furthermore, he is a master's student 3 postgraduate programs with the main subjects being endocrine gland surgery, bioethics and medical research methodology in Medicine. He has been a member of the Society of Junior Doctors (More than 150 published papers mainly with secondary data - systematic reviews meta-analyses) since August 2022 and has been coordinating the Organizing Committee (OC) of Communication & Openness since October of the same year and elected board member in December 2024. Since September 2023, he has been participating in scientific projects of the 'Cochrane Collaboration' while being an official member of the 'Cochrane Greece' working group. He has been a member of the Hellenic Gastrointestinal Cancer Study Group (GIC-SG), a member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) since March 2024, and a member of the Hellenic Society of Biomedical and Laboratory Animal Science (HSBLAS) since November 2023. His interests include, acting in theatrical roles, photography, sports and pets. He is also a presenter on a radio show with social and health related topics from the whole spectrum of medical science. His volunteer work includes his participation in non-governmental and non-profit organizations including Doctors of the World (Médecins du Monde) that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare and Arctouros with aim to protect wildlife and the natural environment in Greece and abroad. Moreover, he is an active production volunteer at TEDxAuth with the aim to inform and educate diverse global audiences in an engaging and accessible manner.
