- ResumeDimitrios Giannakidis, MD, MSc, MSc, PhD(c), born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1984, graduated with honors (9.3/10) from the Medical School of the University of Sofia, where he was admitted after exams, in December 2016. Simultaneously, he completed a master’s degree in Healthcare Management. During this period, he also worked as a Cardiovascular Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit, performing and coordinating duties since 2008. Currently, he works as a Board-Certified General Surgeon at the 1st Department of Surgery, Attica General Hospital "Sismanogleio - Amalia Fleming". He is a strong advocate of multidisciplinary knowledge, reflected in his diverse interests, and is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and advancement of medical science. He has exhibited broad research interests, contributing as a co-author to numerous scientific papers across various fields of Medical Science. His scientific work includes 47 publications in international peer-reviewed medical journals, with an h-index of 17, i12-index of 14, and more than 500 references to his scientific articles by other authors. He has presented studies and scientifically interesting cases at over 20 national and international conferences and has participated in more than 40 practical and theoretical training courses. He is a coordinator in numerous research working groups with research subjects in basic and clinical research. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the Department of Medicine, studying the role of antioxidants in intestinal ischemic-reperfusion injury and their effect on intestinal anastomoses. He recently obtained a master's degree in colorectal surgery. Furthermore, he is a master’s student in four postgraduate programs, focusing on Endocrine Gland Surgery, Bioethics, Research Methodology in Biomedicine, Biostatistics and Clinical Bioinformatics, and Surgical Oncology. Since August 2022, he has been a member of the Society of Junior Doctors (more than 150 published papers, mainly through systematic reviews and meta-analyses of secondary data). He has coordinated the Organizing Committee (OC) of Communication & Openness since October of the same year and was elected as a board member in December 2024. Since September 2023, he has been participating in scientific projects with the "Cochrane Collaboration" and is an official member of the "Cochrane Greece" working group. He has been a member of the Hellenic Gastrointestinal Cancer Study Group (GIC-SG), contributing to the Communication & Openness group and serving as an author on 11 sections of the Greek-Cypriot Guidelines for colorectal cancer, which are set to be published in the coming months. Furthermore, he joined the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) in March 2024, participating in the ESCP Patient Corner - Working Group since August 2024. He became a member of the Hellenic Society of Biomedical and Laboratory Animal Science (HSBLAS) in November 2023, a trial member of the Hellenic Surgical Society in September 2024 and a regular member of European Society of Surgical Oncology in January 2025. His interests include acting in theatrical roles, photography, sports, and pets. He is also a presenter on a radio show covering social and health-related topics across the medical science spectrum. His volunteer work includes his participation in non-governmental (NGO) and non-profit organizations, including Médecins du Monde, providing medical assistance to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare by participating in and coordinating the operation of hand-held clinics in Athens & Thessaloniki. In addition, he is a regular member of NGO "Arcturos" as a field volunteer aiming to protect wildlife and the natural environment in Greece and abroad as well as an active production volunteer at TEDxAuth, with the goal of informing and educating diverse global audiences in an engaging and accessible manner.
